Native Language Public Speaking Virtual Fair -
"Let's Celebrate Our First Nation Language - In the Spirit of Sharing"
KTEI-FNSSP will be coordinating a Native Language Speaking Virtual Forum for all or our 11 schools. The purpose of the Forum is to share our Native Language with other First Nations schools under Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute.
This is a non-competitive event. We want to showcase our language learning and share our strategies with other First Nation schools. Our language is our identity and it is being revitalized to varying degrees in all our schools. Your uniqueness with language learning may inspire others, as we all work toward a shared vision of revitalizing our language.
The submission of all presentations will be focused on the oral language fluency. The students strategy to present the language is totally their choice (example: song, poem, essay, project, interview, conversation, picking medicines, going for a walk, fishing, hunting, cooking at home, home or community event, reading a book in the language).
The participant choices will reflect respect for the language learning strategies used in our schools and the hard work of the Native Language Teachers and helpers. We don’t want to limit any participation, therefore, there will be no awarding of 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each category. Each student will receive a participation award/ribbon and the school will receive funds for a pizza lunch in February 2014.
The categories for submissions will be at follows:
1. Jr. & Sr. Kindergarten – Grade 1 (30 seconds –1 minute)
2. Grade 2 – Grade 3 (1-2 minutes)
3. Grade 4 – Grade 5 (3-4 minutes)
4. Grade 6 – Grade 8 (4-5 minutes)
5. Grade 9 – 12 (4-7 minutes)
7. Elder Involvement with School Children/Parents
SUBMISSION DATE: November 25 – December 17, 2013 (open for extension to January 31st)
More details about submission process and registration will follow in early December. Each school will need to identify a school site coordinator to help with the submission of entries to KTEI and collaborate with the organizers from KTEI-FNSSP.
All entries will be showcased, via video linked to youtube or posted on the website (with signed parental permission. This permission form will be sent to the school in December.) A compilation of selected entries onto a CD may result to share with other schools and communities.
Let’s showcase our language - our songs, stories, schools, families and communities. Please let me know if you have any questions.
