classroom we had a weekly 'Mystery Reader' visit us.
I would make contact with the family member and students would get various clues throughout the week to try and guess who it could be. On Friday mornings for about half an hour our mystery guest would visit and read one or two children's of their choice and talk about how reading helps them in their lives or with their jobs.
It was great because we saw a variety of stories (some that were written by our mystery readers), we saw our reading strategies used and we heard about a variety of ways reading helped our mystery reader (cooking, instructional etc)
It was a lot of fun and brought such a great feeling to our classroom.
Some of our guests were my wonderful mother Hilda, our Deputy Grand Chief Glen Hare and his wife Sally and our principal Neil Debassige. I will be using the Mystery Reader activity in my classroom again!
